Main Application Window

The main application window can be divided into three parts:

• The top part of the window indicates your computer's current protection status.

  

  Current status of the computer protection

  There are three possible protection statuses and each status is indicated by a certain color, similar to traffic lights. Green indicates that protection of your computer is at the correct level, while yellow and red warn that there are security threats in the system configuration or in operation of the application. In addition to malicious programs, threats include obsolete application databases, disabled protection components, and selection of minimum protection levels.

  The icon indicating the application's status on the panel can have the following colors:

  • - green. This color indicates that the computer protection is ensured at the required level - application bases have been recently updated, all protection components are running in accordance with the settings recommended by Kaspersky Lab's specialists, and either no malicious objects have been detected during a computer scan or all detected objects have been disinfected.
  • - yellow. This color indicates that the protection level has been decreased - there are problems in the operation of the application. For example, the application settings have been altered and do not match the recommended settings, the anti-virus databases have not been updated recently, or a full scan of the computer for viruses has not been performed.
  • - red. This color indicates that there are problems which may lead to infection of your computer and loss of data. For example, one or more protection components have failed, the application has not been updated in a long time, it is not activated or malicious objects requiring urgent processing have been detected.

  Security threats must be eliminated as they appear. To obtain detailed information about them and to eliminate them quickly, click the Fix it now link (see figure above).

• The left part of the window provides quick access to any of the application's functions, including anti-virus scans and updating tasks.

  The left part of the main window contains the following sections:

  Protection - quick access to settings for all protection components:

  Anti-Malware - protection against viruses and other malicious programs, this link allows you to view information about the operation of any protection component, configure its settings; launching the restore task after an infection, and create a rescue disk.

  System Security - monitoring user applications' access to the system resources based on rules (Application Filtering), analysis of the behavior of user applications in the system (Proactive Defense), monitoring of the network access (Firewall), analysis of system security.

  Online Security - protection against fraud and network attacks, blocking an attacking computer in case of a network attack, protection against phishing, launching the activities clearing task, access to the virtual keyboard.

  Content Filtering - protection against spam and adware, parental control, launching the Network packet analysis task, configuring Microsoft Internet Explorer browser settings.

  Scan - searching for viruses, rootkits and vulnerabilities, launching a full computer scan, scanning the startup objects.

  Update - updating databases and application software modules.

  License - application activation, extending the license period.

  

  Left-hand part of the main window

• The right-hand part of the window contains information about the application function selected in the left-hand part, and is used to configure those functions and provide tools for performing virus scan tasks, downloading updates, etc.

You can also use buttons:

• Settings - to open the application configuration window.
• Help - to open the application's Help system.
• Detected - to open the list of harmful objects detected by any component or scan task, and to view detailed statistics of the application's operation.
• Reports - to open the list of events which occurred during the application's operation.
• Support - to open the window containing information about the system and links to Kaspersky Lab's information resources (Technical Support service site, forum).

  You can change the appearance of the application by creating and using your own graphics and color schemes.
